Tide Over - by Alanah Jarvis
This painting pays tribute to and acknowledges the Australia’s First People throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, sea and community.
Tide over is an old seafaring term, sailors would float with the tide when there was no wind to fill their sails, and would do this until the wind returned. This was known as Tide Over.
I feel most of us have been tide over for the previous two years waiting for our normal lives to return post pandemic. This painting represents hard work and struggles we face throughout our lives while we tide over to easier times. Nothing is constant.
The edges of this large painting have been painted in mineral blue to ensure no raw canvas is seen and to create a faux frame.
