This painting was done with big brushes and gestural brush-strokes. resists were used to show the vivid red underpainting as I wanted to capture the burst of colour amongst the foliage.

Artwork Description
Artist Bio
I am a contemporary Australian artist based in Perth, WA. My work is strongly influenced by years of travel. The bright colours, strong patterns and ethereal images in my work resonate of Asia. I describe my paintings as decorative abstract expressionism!
I prefer working large to enable the expressive paint to resonate against the patterned and repetitive marks. There is a lot of layering of colour and use of resists to allow the under painting to show. I use acrylic, oils, shellac and natural resins.
I especially enjoy combining different mediums and styles with the natural resin from the Xanthorrhoea plant (Grass Tree which is also sometimes called Balga resin), the results can be unpredictable which contributes to the uniqueness of the work.
