Artwork Description

"Every icon has an origin story, and for the Volkswagen Kombi, that story starts in 1949. That’s when Dutch businessman and pioneer Ben Pon pulled up his suspenders and hit the road with a sketch in hand, and a dream in tow. This single sketch was the beginning of a pretty wild adventure. Inspiring the design of the very first Kombi Van, as we know it today. With elements of the original T1 beetle design, combined with the room to move. The T2 Kombi has been called many things and has evolved more times than even we can count. But one thing has stayed the same, our love of adventure." ©2020 Alejandra Sieder.

Artist Bio

Alejandra Sieder is a Venezuelan-born, Australian and Spanish contemporary artist based in Sydney. Trained in Graphic Design at the Hans Neumann Design Institute in Caracas, her visual language was shaped by the legacy of Latin American masters Jesús Soto and Carlos Cruz-Diez, whose work taught her that art is not simply observed—it is experienced.

Having lived in Venezuela, Spain, Norway and Australia, Sieder draws from contrasting landscapes, cultures and emotional experiences. Her practice moves between geometric precision and organic expression, exploring perception, memory, movement and transformation. Through layered textures, monochromatic structures, expressive gestures and light-reactive pigments, she creates abstract works that shift with their environment and invite a personal emotional response.

Her recent Australian exhibitions include Affordable Art Fair Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Internationally, her work has been presented at Affordable Art Fair Berlin, Austin and Hong Kong, as well as Spectrum Miami, where she received the Best International Exhibitor Award in 2024.

Sieder was a finalist in the 2025 OMNIA Art Prize in Melbourne and has received multiple finalist selections associated with the Lethbridge Art Prize. Her work has also been exhibited in Singapore, London, Edinburgh, Madrid and Norway and is held in private collections internationally.

Each painting is conceived as an emotional map—a meeting point between structure and intuition, stillness and movement, the visible world and the inner landscape.
