Artwork Description

In geometry, a torus is a surface of revolution generated by rotating a circle in three-dimensional space about an axis that is coplanar with the circle.
If the axis of revolution does not touch the circle, the surface is shaped like a ring and is called a torus of revolution. If the axis of revolution is tangent to the circle, the surface is a torus horn.
My objective with this painting was not to exemplify the geometric meaning, but to relate this figure with the internal energy that comes out of the heart and expands, radiating around us and returning in the same way to our central axis; spinal column touching our heart. This painting has been an internal healing therapy for me that has shaken me deeply. Somehow, the energy perceived with the eyes and that, in turn, seems unreal causing dizziness is the same energy that flows through the Being and causes an emotion, a sensation, or a feeling. You are seeing energy but the painting is not moving on the physical plane. The energy exerted by movement is unreal, it is optical, but it exists and makes you shudder. Just like love, which cannot be touched but is the most powerful force that makes us feel alive, so this TORUS is a reminder that within us, lives the most powerful force that drives us to act, create and think the most constructive and overwhelming thoughts, or the darkest and destructive...

Artist Bio

Alejandra Sieder is a Venezuelan-born, Australian and Spanish contemporary artist based in Sydney. Trained in Graphic Design at the Hans Neumann Design Institute in Caracas, her visual language was shaped by the legacy of Latin American masters Jesús Soto and Carlos Cruz-Diez, whose work taught her that art is not simply observed—it is experienced.

Having lived in Venezuela, Spain, Norway and Australia, Sieder draws from contrasting landscapes, cultures and emotional experiences. Her practice moves between geometric precision and organic expression, exploring perception, memory, movement and transformation. Through layered textures, monochromatic structures, expressive gestures and light-reactive pigments, she creates abstract works that shift with their environment and invite a personal emotional response.

Her recent Australian exhibitions include Affordable Art Fair Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Internationally, her work has been presented at Affordable Art Fair Berlin, Austin and Hong Kong, as well as Spectrum Miami, where she received the Best International Exhibitor Award in 2024.

Sieder was a finalist in the 2025 OMNIA Art Prize in Melbourne and has received multiple finalist selections associated with the Lethbridge Art Prize. Her work has also been exhibited in Singapore, London, Edinburgh, Madrid and Norway and is held in private collections internationally.

Each painting is conceived as an emotional map—a meeting point between structure and intuition, stillness and movement, the visible world and the inner landscape.
