Artwork Description

This piece emerges from a deep, contemplative engagement with the subtle details of the landscape. I was inspired by my purposeful, embodied encounters with the native forrest near my home, which are enabled through regular walks along the bike path. These slow walks offer an ever-shifting process of discovery of wondrous and precious elements, such as the subtle shifts of afternoon light or the reflection of a canopy on the creek surface. These moments are continually lost and found, and are revealed and disclosed throughout the layered surface of the artwork. The subtle tonal variations evoke the changing hues of foliage in shifting light, mirroring the experience of being present in nature where one is attuned to its rhythms and nuances. The bold gestures and detailed compositions capture the joy of an unexpected moment, such as a flock of cockatoo flying overhead or the call of a kookaburra. The work is a visual meditation for me, an echo of the quiet revelations that the land promises us if we take a moment to notice them.
Note: This is a one-off, original piece. The work has been made on triple-primed, 100% cotton canvas of 380 GSM. The piece is UNFRAMED. The artwork has been varnished for protection and longevity with NAM Satin Varnish.
