My name is Alex Featch.
I have resided in Western Australia for the major part of my life however, I now live in Kings Beach on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, moving here in 2018.
I am a self taught artist and began painting with oils in 2012. Previous to that I had 2 years of working with pastels holding a small exhibition and selling most pieces I completed.
Having spent some 50 years working and playing on, or in the ocean, I feel I have developed a good understanding of the movements of the ocean, its swells and the reflective effects of light and refraction on bodies of water.
I have therefore concentrated my work on seascapes and close up views of the surface of water in different forms with changing weather and light conditions, although I have also completed several portraits.
Living on the waterfront also allows me to have a continuous source of inspiration for new pieces to paint and further develop the quality of my work.
My main interest is in realism and the detailed work involved in this style.
I have been a winning artist in the Dampier Art Awards in Western Australia for 3 years running (2018,19 and 20) and have also sold several commissioned pieces.
I am currently working on completing a good number of pieces towards planning an exhibition in the coming months.
