Artwork Description

Artist Bio

Aleksandra Kostić D is a contemporary visual artist with over three decades of artistic practice spanning Europe and Australia. Her early work developed through an interdisciplinary approach, encompassing painting, drawing, lithography, installation, video, and mixed media, forming a strong foundation for an intuitive and materially driven practice.

Her artistic language emerged through periods of social and personal transition, leading to a sustained exploration of women’s inner lives, emotional resilience, and renewal. Rather than illustrating events directly, her work reflects on lived experience, memory, and the ways continuity and inner strength are carried over time.

After relocating to Australia, Aleksandra re-established her practice in Far North Queensland. Living in close proximity to nature prompted a shift toward painting and a more inward, intuitive mode of working. This period marked a deeper engagement with themes of transition, ancestry, and belonging, approached through personal experience rather than fixed narratives.

Her work draws from a distinctly personal and feminine perspective, informed by cultural memory and an ongoing inquiry into the relationship between land, body, and inner perception. Across her practice, layered surfaces and subtle forms invite prolonged viewing and quiet reflection.

In recent years, Aleksandra has collaborated with First Nations art organisations in Far North Queensland. These experiences have reinforced her understanding of visual art as a space for listening, exchange, and continuity, and her commitment to working with awareness of place, land, and long cultural presence.
