Artwork Description

Ultramicroscope is derived from another artwork called Microscope. It represents the exercise of revisiting older creations and presenting them in different points of view.

Many of my creations start with an unpretentious scribble on the canvas. Sometimes I can start from an idea an it leads to something completely different. Some other times it starts from the very action of making marks, no intention at all. Then I just keep adding layers to it.

At often times the stage I most enjoy on a piece is lost under many other layers I decided to try on top of it. It is always a struggle to decided when to stop adding layers.

The piece Microscope was an interesting example because I decided to stop after a few layers. Then it was living in my house for a while and I decided to add more layers and it turned out wonderful.

Artist Bio

Born (1981) and raised in Brazil, I've been living and making art in Australia since 2013. My background is in Architecture and Graphic Design, areas that drink a lot from art but ultimately deliver function. Maps, plans, typography and basic elements of design still reverberate in my practice.

My work is currently about collections and connections. Sometimes a collection of shapes and colours exploring the boundaries of abstraction and representation. Some other times a peculiar line work that plays around with the visual representation of connections in our lives: constellations, molecules, family trees, flowcharts, electronic diagrams. Most often the collections and connections are intertwined in the same piece.
