Artwork Description

Wilsons Promontory Whale Rock

THE PROM

I wanted to create a moody seascape print to remind me of my frequent trips to the Wilsons Promontory area. This print depicts Whale Rock near the Tidal River camping area and is inspired by the bold shadows cast by the harsh Australian sunlight. I am very pleased with how this print turned out; it successfully embodies simplicity and directness, which stem from the seemingly simple process of cutting away linoleum.

Balancing the light and dark tones while maintaining the integrity of the print required a lot of effort. This is my third attempt at this subject, as it can be challenging to avoid removing too much linoleum and upsetting the balance of light and dark.

Each print has been hand-coloured, making it a unique piece of art. I hope you enjoy owning it.
