Artwork Description

This piece is inspired by a time when I chose to walk a different path off my usual route and follow an unfamiliar bend in my local park.

The soft white ray dashing through the open sky, is framed with glowing yellow beams, one sweeping above it and one below anchored by the curved trail. The instinctive decision to discover a new track became a valuable lesson to trust my intuition in finding opportunities and to embrace change in my personal dilemmas when returning home to Australia, after three years away. May this painting inspire you to find courage and strength needed to explore and navigate the challenges along your journey.

Artist Bio

Alice Nguyen is an Australian painter whose evocative watercolour landscapes explore the quiet beauty of nature and its profound influence on personal identity. Her practice is rooted in introspection, offering glimpses into spaces of belonging while highlighting the essential connection between nature and mental well-being.

Distilled from a personal archive of photographed moments and lived experiences, Nguyen reinterprets landscapes as reflective spaces - arenas for self-exploration and quiet revelations. As the eldest daughter of Vietnamese refugees in Australia, her work subtly traces the tension between personal aspirations and the weight of cultural and societal expectations, celebrating nature as both a sanctuary and a guide in the pursuit of life’s meaning and self-realisation.

With over a decade of experience in healthcare across different countries, Nguyen brings a nuanced awareness of human vulnerability, the complexities of identity, and the growing disconnection from nature in our fast-paces, modern technology-driven lives. Through her atmospheric watercolour paintings, she invites you to connect with nature, inspiring you to slow down and embrace spaces that are soul healing and life giving.

Alice’s work has been showcased internationally, including at the London Open Art Vision Festival (2022) and the Sydney Royal Arts & Crafts Competition (2025), and is held in private collections.
