Artwork Description

When I was a small child we had a beautiful Hydrangea bush alongside our veranda. I was fascinated by the waxy blossoms that appears in all shade of pale blue through to vibrant purple. This piece captures the beauty of blossoms in a riot of colour glistening with morning dew. Morning Hydrangea is about moments spent marveling at the beauty of nature through the eyes of a child. Soft blues, pinks, and purples contrast against a deep green background.

My focus as a painter is on the emotion that the artwork imparts to the observer rather than the subject itself. Inspired by impressionist painters such as Georgia O'Keeffe, my work has progressed from realistic depictions to a more fluid, impressionistic approach. My floral artworks explore the connection between colour and emotion.
