Alison Mooney is an Australian artist currently based on the Sunshine Coast in South-East Queensland.

Her work explores colour, form and their energies when combined. Alison works in the studio in the style of ‘call and respond’: making markssunconciously with fluidity and gravity, before she responds with more conscious decisions to shape each piece.

Optimism, movement and vibrancy.

She plays with textures, opacities and angles. Suggestion is a big part of her work, Alison invites you into this colourful world of large, positive shapes as you piece together an uunderstanding of what you see, for yourself.

‘Confusion opens the mind up to otherwise invisible ideas, Alison says.

‘In these works I’m always striving for a piece that brings a beautiful, optimistic strength to life, with the lightest touch of humour and fun!

‘My twisted rainbows are an expression of life’s energy and flow ... and how a giggle every now and then just adds sugar on top!’.

Formerly of Toowoomba, QLD, Alison started a gallery space (2010 - 2015) and then co-founded a hybrid arts collective (2012 - 2015) which inspired the imaginations of local business, government and creatives - the flow in effects of which can still be seen today.

On moving to the Sunshine Coast in 2015, Alison switched focus to her own practice and is currently represented by 19Karen Contemporary Art Space on the Gold Coast.

She has works held in private collections in Japan, NZ, Austria, Papua New Guinea, the US and the UK.

Public art commissions she’s delivered of late include an stainless steel arbour on the Sunshine Coast, mural for the entrance of Pacific Fair Shopping Centre on the Gold Coast and different murals and collaborations across south-east QLD.

Works available on Bluethumb are straight from the artist’s studio - you can view more work at 19Karen -online or in store.
