I recently read the book Gum, by Ashley Hay and it was interesting to get the bigger picture of these trees, taking in history and story. However, my thoughts often turn to what some of these old old trees may have seen decades ago, centuries for some and the changes that settlement in this country brought to them. I wonder about the stories they might have to tell. The Gum, so many more species than once thought and so much beauty and grand presence. They were at first abhorred but now it is hard to imagine how anyone could have anything but admiration and awe in their heart, for these stunning trees.
