Artwork Description

Katie the Kanga – Outback
A moment frozen in time – Katie the kangaroo caught against the vast plains of rolling rocks, sand and desert – what dreams does Katie have in this land of plenty?
It was lovely working on this piece first laying down the broad paint strokes and marks that make up my textural background. Once a base was created, I then worked on a series of marks and textural patterns which I import into my digital “tool box”, my computer.

The illustrations are then laid out digitally where shapes start to emerge from the abstract landscape. Here Katie started to appear from the shadows in this scape. I defined her character with additional brush stroke layers and Katie emerged from the textural landscape.

I enjoy using my background in film and computer graphics techniques in my art to help create these multi- layered images. My artworks often have many layers to each piece allowing you to read into them. I hope to capture your imagination and to arouse an emotive response from each artwork.

This end artwork is created through layering hand painted textures, line work and digital collage giving its unique qualities.

The artwork is a fine art giclée art print, printed using Archival inks onto thick high-quality watercolour paper. This artwork is signed on the back of the print and is ready to be mounted into a frame and hung on your wall.

Artist Bio

Since having a family I have altered direction in my career path moving from working as a special FX and animation designer / director to carving a career as an artist and a surface pattern designer.
Much of my inspiration comes from the seaside and the beautiful shapes found in nature.

I am currently based in Sydney where my daily ritual of diving into the ocean reminds me that the world is a rolling slideshow of light and colour.

I love capturing the forms seen in botanicals, landscape and natures rich colour and textures to create designs. I work with acrylics, watercolours and inks and using sticks, feathers and traditional paint brush, build expressive, layered artworks. My use of colour and mixed media have allowed me to create a varied body of work that appeals to many.

I really enjoy designing unique collections; my final artworks often being a combination of traditional and digital media which are then translated onto a variety of products.

I enjoy the challenge of producing distinctive designs and working on collaborations so I can capture people’s imagination and arouse an emotive response. To be able to create a statement and story with the use of colour, print and pattern is an incredible feeling.

Every painting tells a story … every brush stroke has an energy … every artist their own passion.

Life is a splash of colour mixed together and shared with friends.

My mission in life is not to merely survive, but to thrive, and to do so with passion, some compassion, some humour and great style!
