Artwork Description

I was lucky enough to visit this beautiful Burmese kitty in person. I went through albums filled with photos of Prinnie and hand picked photos to use as references. I was immediately drawn to one in particular, of her soaking up the sun with her eyes softly closed. The challenge for me was to draw her eyes open in the portrait

♥️Touching words from her owner Pam♥️
“La Princesa (Prinnie,Prin). Our stately loving beautiful lordly purrfect Burmese friend came into our lives 20 years ago aged 9 months during the 10 years of her beloved Masters illness.
Amongst all the sadness and despair she helped us laugh and smile (our shining star). Now my soulmate with her glorious eyes upon my face and just her paw upon my hand softly purring “I understand“ She loves her daily brush and sleeping in my arms with her adorning face on the pillow. God sent this gift to us - the love shared between humans and furry creatures is a wonder beyond understanding.”

I loved every minute of this artwork. While it still had its challenging aspects, drawing the fur was almost therapeutic. I really wanted to capture her beautiful gentle nature through the use of light and dark values and feature those beautiful gleaming eyes.

Born and raised in Brisbane, Australia Alyce Duhs is a self-taught emerging artist.
Alyce has developed her passion as an artist over many years, specialising in
photorealistic, illustrative works of art using chalk pastel. The most important part of her style is to
create vibrant paintings of wildlife, seascapes, pets, and botanicals with tremendously high attention
to detail. Alyce has developed her signature style shown through vibrant colours and dramatic
contrasting. Each artwork finished off with extremely delicate detailing and highlighting.

Alyce draws inspiration for her work from various trips to national parks, beaches, rainforests, and
wildlife sanctuaries. From this she captures elements in nature that particularly stimulate her
emotions.
Alyce believes her art has the power to make one view the natural world in a new light. To discover
beauty in nature that otherwise might seem dull and often overlooked. Like the dreamy reflections in
the ocean or rays of sunlight shining through leaves above. The warmth and coolness of colour and
how they contrast in harmony to capture moments of pure emotion.
