The Cow Before the Storm

The Cow Before The Storm is my favourite piece to date. I created this artwork using a combination of chalk pastels and coloured pencil with intricate detailing from top to bottom, over 55 hours of work. I loved working on the Auburn fur. With the pops of lavender and rich mahogany to create depth and volume.

Every section was very challenging for me but at the same time I felt a huge sense of satisfaction. I know this piece has helped me grow as an artist, which is what I aim to achieve every time I draw.

I absolutely love cows and their gentle and protective nature. The original photograph was taken when I was out with my Mum patting horses. We came across this silly girl right by the fence munching on some long grass. She has the most beautiful Auburn fur and fluffiest ears I have ever seen.

to detail. Alyce has developed her signature style shown through vibrant colours and dramatic
contrasting. Each artwork finished off with extremely delicate detailing and highlighting.

Alyce draws inspiration for her work from various trips to national parks, beaches, rainforests, and
wildlife sanctuaries. From this she captures elements in nature that particularly stimulate her
emotions. 
Alyce believes her art has the power to make one view the natural world in a new light. To discover
beauty in nature that otherwise might seem dull and often overlooked. Like the dreamy reflections in
the ocean or rays of sunlight shining through leaves above. The warmth and coolness of colour and
how they contrast in harmony to capture moments of pure emotion.
