Artwork Description

Consumer Pleasure is inspired by pop art and its ties to consumerism/capitalism however viewing it through a woman's lens. Women, and particularly queer women (or the idea of them), are enjoyed by pop culture as a sort of spectacle and are marketed to us to satiate public desire. Here, a woman's hand is implied to be performing a sexual act for a recognisable global brand - the market uses women to satisfy demand.

Hi! My name is Alycia and I paint in various mediums from watercolour and gouache to acrylic and oil. I particularly enjoy painting flowers and people but I mostly want to create something beautiful that others are drawn to and connect with.

In 2022, I won the Wauchope Creative Hub's Lasiandra Festival Art Prize and have since exhibited in group exhibitions at the Macleay Valley Community Art Gallery, Wauchope Art Gallery, Sunset Framing Gallery and Roto House in Port Macquarie, and Alykat Creative Gallery in Coffs Harbour. In 2024 I held my first duo exhibition at Long Point Vineyard + Art Gallery alongside artist Kay Thurston.
