Artwork Description

This is a self portrait wearing the ancestral head dress of an Armenian woman: my ancestor's would have worn just the same. I once heard a tune floating across a field to wear I stood.
I was rooted to the spot with passionate emotion.
I immediately asked a gentleman close by if they knew what the tune was. "A lament for the Armenian people" he said.
I knew then, where my heart lay.

Artist Bio

The golden thread that runs through my work is the pursuit of Beauty, through depicting our human form in the landscape. My first love is portraiture and capturing the soul’s essence on canvas.
My inspirations are those realists of the Renaissance and the nineteenth century Pre-raphaelite painters, who broke the boundaries of what could be achieved with tubes of oil colour. I aspire to likewise emulate them.
I am classically trained in drawing and painting in the Atelier tradition. An additional university degree in the conservation of easel paintings means all my work is constructed with the highest standards of conservation in mind- my paintings will indeed stand the test of time.
Life is too short not to be surrounded by beauty.
