Artwork Description

This piece was from my initial foray into self-portraits. The painting occipies that liminal space between open-ness and reservation, how much one reveals and how much they hide. I find its most explicit point is the direct gaze, challenging the viewer to keep looking.

Artist Bio

I am Melbourne born and raised. My mother studied fine art at university and I was encouraged at a young age to play with any art materials I found. I dabble with pastels, watercolours and soft sculpture but oil paints are where my heart lies. I have participated in a raft of exhibitions, group and solo, over the years and think original art is definitely part of a 'la dolce vita.'

I am obsessed with colour in all parts of my life - in the food I prepare, the clothes I wear, in my home and garden. I am inspired by many things whether it's an observed vignette or a structured life drawing class, and I also model so can understand both sides of the easel.
I paint figures that I believe need more representation in our society and further the conversation we, as women, have with oursleves around beauty.
