Cocora Beach at Eden, on the NSW Sapphire Coast, is a magical place.
It's steeped in history; not far from here is the end of the Bundian Way, and across Twofold Bay lie the remains of the Davidson Whaling Station.
It's the story of Old Tom that captured my imagination. Old Tom was an orca, and his pod used to work in synchrony with humans here to hunt whales. The nearby national park was renamed Beowa National Park in 2022 and its new name honours the special connection between orcas and the Thaua people. When I sit here, I close my eyes and try to imagine those magnificent orcas, cruising through the water so clear and blue, and the sacred bond they shared with their human counterparts.
With the tall trees on the point, the rock pools, and the abundance of seafood here, it feels like a real paradise--a true Eden.
