Artwork Description

This work is inspired by the moods and textures of rain clouds over the outback, from a recent trip to Broken Hill, NSW. The ceramic "canvas" is painted with slip, oxides and sand, mounted on wooden box frame 25x20cm stained in black, hung on picture wire.

This work is part of an ongoing series which look great hung in gallery wall combinations. See my other current works to create a collection.

Artist Bio

Artist/designer Amanda Wise creates hand built ceramic wall art, sculpture, lighting and vessels. She is an emerging artist with a long professional background in design. Amanda studied Ceramics at TAFE Sydney, graduating with Distinction and as winner of the 2022 TACA Graduate Award.

"I am interested in how we connect with certain landscapes and moments in time to create resonant memories. My current work explores the interplay of elemental forms, surface texture, shadows and depth to evoke a sense of place and meaning. I love to use different clay bodies, slip painting and natural textures such as sand, crushed minerals and wax to build subtle layers that invite viewers to touch. To me, the process of making with clay, slips, natural textures, moulds, firing techniques and assembly is a collaboration between the medium and the idea. We work together to explore possibilities and bring stories to life. I am excited for the creative journey ahead."

In addition to her on-going exploratory practice, Amanda works with interior designers and private clients to design and create unique, statement ceramic wall sculptures to size for interiors and garden rooms. These commissioned pieces are inspired by the colours/textures of the local sand and stones from her client’s location, creating a special piece that speaks to their heart and country.
