Due to extensive habitat destruction, the Regent Honeyeater had become so scarce in the wild that young males had no adults to teach them the songs used to serenade the females. Thankfully, this is a story of hope, as captive bred birds which have been released into the wild are finding wild mates and breeding successfully.
This painting is inspired by some of the beautiful photos taken by my nephew, Tim Paasila, while working with Birdlife Australia on their rehabilitation project.
