Artwork Description

“Lake Samsonvale from McGavin Park” captures the expansive view across water and layered hills, reflecting the calm presence of this familiar landscape. Seen from McGavin Park, the composition looks out over the deep blue waters of Lake Samsonvale, where sweeping curves of shoreline and lush greens meet the steady rhythm of the surrounding ranges.

Expressive mark-making and textured layers evoke the movement of wind across water and the softness of vegetation along the lake’s edge. Fine linear details trace the built elements within the landscape, grounding the scene in a real and recognisable place while maintaining an intuitive, painterly quality.

Balancing structure with atmosphere, the painting reflects a quiet moment of observation - a pause to take in the meeting of land, water, and sky. It speaks to the familiarity of returning to a place and seeing it anew through colour, memory, and abstraction.

Artist Bio

My paintings are vibrant, bold and eye-catching. I love bright colours that evoke a feeling of joy and delight!

I paint imaginative urban-themed environments, landscapes, gardens, wilderness, mountains and character houses.

The palettes of my paintings are consistently strikingly vivid that bring energy and life to my harmonious compositions.

My work leans towards an abstract stylisation with simplified shapes and block colours, but this is balanced with intricate details and patterns. I like to think of it as a maximalist-minimalist style.

Each piece focuses on a balance between the foreground and background which guides the viewer through the paintings.

My background is in landscape architecture and urban design. My passion for my place making career is an influence on my work. I focus on creating an aspirational “sense of place” and utopic vision, mostly set around my home in the Moreton Bay region in South-East Queensland.
