Artwork Description

“Sanctuaries” is a series inspired by my personal connection to Brisbane’s Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mount Coot-tha: a place I return to whenever I need restoration, quiet, and reconnection with the natural world. Walking through the gardens, beneath the canopy and amongst the layered textures of tropical plants, I am reminded of the importance of slowing down and allowing space for reflection. The gardens offer more than beauty; they create a sense of belonging within something larger and enduring, where nature becomes both refuge and perspective.

The women within these works are portrayed in flowing gowns, resting peacefully within the landscape as symbolic extensions of contemplation, softness, and presence. Their stillness contrasts with the pace and demands of contemporary life, inviting viewers to consider the value of rest, emotional renewal, and immersion in natural environments. The gowns introduce an intentional sense of grace and reverence, elevating these quiet moments into something ceremonial and deeply felt.

Artist Bio

My paintings are vibrant, bold and eye-catching. I love bright colours that evoke a feeling of joy and delight!

I paint imaginative urban-themed environments, landscapes, gardens, wilderness, mountains and character houses.

The palettes of my paintings are consistently strikingly vivid that bring energy and life to my harmonious compositions.

My work leans towards an abstract stylisation with simplified shapes and block colours, but this is balanced with intricate details and patterns. I like to think of it as a maximalist-minimalist style.

Each piece focuses on a balance between the foreground and background which guides the viewer through the paintings.

My background is in landscape architecture and urban design. My passion for my place making career is an influence on my work. I focus on creating an aspirational “sense of place” and utopic vision, mostly set around my home in the Moreton Bay region in South-East Queensland.
