Hawkins is a local Perth artist who works in a range of various mediums including oil & acrylic paintings .
Hawkins’ style is unique, with bright bold strokes and fine details. Some works are expressed with texture and buildup of paint others simplified with a stripped back look- laying bare the soul. Whilst studying Art in college Hawkins instantly fell in love with abstract artists such as Salvatore Dali, Andy Warhol and Pablo Picasso.
Hawkins’ passion for 1960s and 1970s culture encompasses fashion models music and film. These have an immense influence throughout all of her works. “Sometimes I crave complete chaos in my work, imperfection is the key, I want no control, no rules, almost like entering a room blindfolded, simply allowing the paintbrush to guide me. Other days I want complete structure and planning, with complete control- down to the finest detail,” - Amy Hawkins
You may recognize some of Amy Hawkins’ works that have sold Australia wide and USA. Many paintings have been showcased in cafés and have also been exhibited in local art shows. These include the Ellenbrook Art Awards, Bassendean Visual Art Awards and at the Mt Lawley Art Auction. the oil on canvas painting Ashoka’s Lemonade won the people’s choice award. This later appeared on Channel Seven’s program Today Tonight, feature story about Dale Alcocks Home renovation (21/01/2019).
