Artwork Description

Inspired by a dream of laughing at a Tom Waits concert. Which further inspired listening to the album ‘Nighthawks at the Diner’. I’ve been a big fan of Tom Waits since I was eighteen and never gave my friend his CD back. He’s such a brilliant artist and his words are like poetry. I would love to laugh at one of his concerts. This piece reminds me of his deserted streets, biscuit moons and lamppost walking sticks.

Artist Bio

My paintings often begin with a colour palette, derived from nature usually..from my wanderings. Then sound.. , a song, an album..or nature again. This all gets transcribed to the canvas using acrylic paint, oil crayon and graphite markings, sometimes collage..just mixed media really. I used the rain in one because it started pouring as I was painting. I love nature. I have moved around a bit these past few years in an old converted school bus..and my work reflects this, from dry forest with towering gum trees to tropical rainforest. Nature has been my healer..I have have survived two brain surgeries, brain radiation and chemotherapy. I am a mother, I thrive.
