The Surge

There are places in nature where among the chaos and turmoil meditative peace can be found.
This piece .. "The Surge" is another painting in the series entitled "Awash".
At the edge of the rocky outcrop, where the ocean meets Terra Firma There we can find the chaos of waves beating over the rocks creating a white foam and retreating again. However, if we sit and watch this to and fro, we can start to feel the coming and going of the waves, almost like breathing. The surge washes onto the rocks, makes its way to the crevices in the short interlude then retreats back only to be met by the next surge. This to and fro can be studied... we can see the millions of variations of how the water makes its way back through the crevices.. and the precise timing of wave after wave..... Almost meditative.

I have always been an outdoors person. I love the solitude and the variety of colors, textures and shapes.
Bringing these images to life through my art is a great pleasure.
I like to "play" with different mediums.. from graphite and charcoal drawings through to paintings.
With painting my preference is oil at the moment. It takes longer to dry but the fact that the pigments come from real life, I feel brings the whole painting to life.

When working on my art, I like to be alone and immerse myself in music or the quiet of nature to get myself into a meditative state.
I find this keeps me concentrated on what I'm working on rather than the end result.
With all my works I try to bring depth, contrast and detail into my pictures.
