My art is simply about the pursuit of beauty. In particular, my paintings celebrate the nude and feminine exquisiteness.
I love painting in oils as they are luscious and rich to work with. They are also very forgiving; a mistake can be easily be wiped away.
Art makes life better. I have always pondered the big questions of life; Why are we here? How do we live well? How can we fully enjoy our lives if we know our time here is fleeting? When I find joy in the appreciation of the figure, such as admiring a beautiful pose, or catching a fleeting glimpse of a breast, I feel I can distract myself from life's hardships and breath a bit easier. In every painting, I try to capture pleasure where, if only for a brief moment, the viewer may be taken to a perfect place beyond the worries of the day to day.
I live on the Northern Beaches in Sydney and swimming in the ocean is a big part of my happiness. The best feeling in the world is diving into the water, feeling the cold slap on warm skin, and then flying through it albeit it for only a few seconds until I come up for air. The water offers hypnotic shapes as the sunlight dances on the surface and on my skin. I try to capture this sense of joy and beauty in my artwork.
My personal information is that I have only recently returned to my love of nudes. After high school, I trained as a high school art teacher but dropped out after a couple of years when I realised I would rather smoke with the students behind the shed than discipline them in front of the class. I then pursued a successful career in Nutrition and Dietetics but left after 10 years to start a family. I am currently studying a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology and when finished would like to have a counselling centre that also embraces nourishing food and art therapy.
