The bush stone-curlew is a strange bird. I first encountered them on Great Keppel Island where they stand still inbetween the hotel chalets as guests walk past. They could almost blend into the background if it wasn't for those huge glaring eyes. In this piece I wanted to capture their attempt at camouflage while also referencing some of the colours of the stunning Queensland island. There are many layers in this painting which give depth to the work and the edges are finished with green. I think this piece would look great in an entrance hallway or close to a window with natural light to highlight the different layers.
