From his first celebrity cartoon presented to Sophia Loren at the age of 17 to his weekly live cartoons beamed nationally on Hey Hey It’s Saturday, Andrew has entertained Australian audiences with his quick wit rendered with but a few strokes of his pen.
Andrew started his television career as an on-air cartoonist for Hey Hey It’s Saturday in ‘85. His unique take and spontaneous send-ups lasted on the show forover 14 years. Andrew’s satirical humour soon became part of Nine’s The AFL Footy Show. It was here that Andrew’s art form evolved to animated cartoons satirizing the news of the day.
During the 90’s Andrew hosted two seasons of his own children’s television show“Guess What?” forThe Nine Network. The aim of the show was for two panels of children to decipher Andrew’s cryptic cartoons.
Over the years Andrew’s work has been published in: Australian Mad magazine, T.V Week,Truth newspaper, The Herald Sun, The Sunday Telegraph, and Mx.
His illustrations have featured in advertising campaigns for Cadburys, Pilot Pens and Schweppes.
In 2003 Andrew was commissioned by Granada Productions to produce “SurviveAlive”, a series of 10 comedy animated shorts for the comedy channel. In that same year he created animated commercials for Netspace and Mars.
Since then Andrew’s cartoon work has featured in the television shows: “Talkin’’ Bout Your Generation”, “The Spearman Experiment,“ The Jesters” and backagain on Hey Hey It’s Saturday for its return in 2010. In 2014 Human Nature commissioned Andrew to design the backdrop for their 2014 Las Vegas Xmas show.
2016 saw Andrew return to The AFL Footy Show with his weekly animated segment “The Footy Show Stakes”, a wacky horse race satirizing the AFL news of the day.
Andrew’s cartoon segment opened the first 6 minutes of the 2016 Grand Final Show which was seen by over 923,000 viewers.
In 2022 Andrew designed and animated the opening for “The Roast of Paul Hogan” and designed the set for “The Best and Worst of Red Faces”–both on the Seven Network.
Andrew has received 3 National Rotary Awards for his work and most recently the 2023 Stanley Award for animation cartoonist was awarded to Andrew for his work in the industry.
His work has been displayed in the National Cartoon Museum and Old Parliament House in Canberra.
