I was born in Brisbane and most of my life has been spent in southern Queensland with a decade spent in Christchurch, New Zealand. I am currently based in country Victoria.
I have worked in the electrical field, forestry, farming, mining and as a delivery driver. For several years I operated my own automotive panel beating business. Nowadays I am finding more time for my artwork and am taking full advantage of this opportunity.
I have been creating artwork for about 40 years, as time has allowed. My formative years were experienced back in the days of punk, when squats were the melting pot of alternative culture. One day I found a pencil and acquired some butchers paper and began my art. It initially served to record the fleeting world around me and soon became a way to express thoughts and opinions. โA picture is worth a thousand wordsโ. Thus I am self taught. Success and failure are very good teachers. Creativity can not be taught. Age has mellowed me and most of my work nowadays is for aesthetics only.
The majority of my past work has used Pencil (Colour pencil and graphite pencil). I like the detail that pencil affords and the smooth texture of the finished piece. I am experimenting with soft pastel and oil pastel and acrylic paint in order to expand the range of styles through which to convey my inspirations.
I enjoy playing with form and colour and also in using art as a form of communication. I would like my art to impart what may be a slightly different view point on a familiar subject. To share my thoughts and experiences. And hopefully to bring pleasure to the viewer.
I find that the subject matter of my artworks tends to be quite varied because we live in a varied world.
Artistically I draw inspiration from a great many historical artists in their attempts to capture the world around them, both real and esoteric. I believe it can be an artistโs role to express cultural nuances and evolution. Expressing the opposite is also the domain of the artist.
The content of my art is taken from the world as I perceive it, as well as mental concoction โ adding something new to the world. I am on a mission to display my artwork to as many people as I am able to do. Through artistic composition and the appreciation of art our individual worlds become expanded.
