Artwork Description

“the flocks of migrating birds
hurled over the ocean from
an old to a new warmth”.
Untitled poem by Rainer Maria Rilke (1875 -1926) Renowned for his use of imagery and philosophy.
This painting is my interpretation of these magnificent birds migrating from the winters climate to new warm oceans.

Artist Bio

Angela has developed a preference for painting waterscapes, as she has a strong connection to this subject matter. She cites her personal challenge as "capturing the light and reflections on water at various times of the day; using a range of colours and layers of paint; and endeavouring to transpose what she sees onto a canvas for others to enjoy.

She lived on Bribie Island for ten years and spent many hours on the waterways, rivers and oceans in the Moreton Bay area. She has been fortunate to divide her time between her home in Brisbane and her 'River House' on the beautiful estuary of four rivers which has inspired many paintings.

Her painting style has developed from experimenting with the vibrant and translucent colours of acrylic paints and inks and is now her preferred medium. She has moved from a more realistic, traditional style through using paint techniques and a palette knife to achieve a less exact and more impressionistic result. Her paintings are linked by subject: oceans, rivers, lakes, boats and shipwrecks. Some are painted on old wooden boards or linen using the colour and texture to accentuate the sand, wood and rust. Others are studies of light and reflections in varying settings in changing light.
