Hi, my name is Angelika and I have been painting in oils for over 40 years. I was formally trained in the US, where I enjoyed four years of rigorous academic study, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA). This intensive training gave me a deep, foundational understanding of anatomy, light, colour, and perspective. Alongside my studies, I had the incredible privilege of working for three years as a studio assistant to the world-renowned fantasy artist James Christensen, an experience that greatly enriched my technical skills and creative outlook. The natural world is my primary source of creative inspiration. I am particularly drawn to the challenge of capturing glowing colour as the light moves across the landscape. The unparalleled beauty of nature, with its distinct and contagious serenity, drives my passion for plein air painting. Alongside landscapes, I also enjoy painting portraits and conceptual pieces and I love storytelling through visual language. Guided by my love of nature, I feel a duty to ensure that my practice leaves a gentle footprint on the planet and, where possible, I incorporate sustainable materials into my process. I frequently source vintage frames and paint on reclaimed timber panels and upcycled cardboard. Ultimately, painting brings me profound joy, which I hope is conveyed to everyone who views my work.
