Anica is a mainly self-taught artist living on the South Coast of NSW and has been painting since the age of 15 starting with oils and later enjoying calligraphy, acrylics, gouache, soft pastels and in recent years watercolour.
Captivated by light and emotion she strives to achieve this in her works. She knows it's an ongoing journey and finds that every new piece will be a result of something learned from the previous. Whether it's birds, animals, landscapes, seascapes, people or other, she likes to give it all a go, placing importance on capturing personality, mood and the moment.
In the year 2000, she was encouraged to follow her dream and took a shine to the wonderful world of Australian birds, animals and flora. She spent many a day walking, bird-watching, observing and learning about the intricate details of our native flora and fauna. Putting paint to paper, her preferred medium was gouache on black mat board. Limited edition prints were printed of a set of 23 paintings and wonderfully, thousands were sold and shipped all over the world.
It was at this time that Anica and her husband Laurie opened their first gallery in Springwood in the Blue Mountains. The galleries were devoted solely to Anica's work, selling both originals and limited edition prints of her work. Laurie took on the role of chief framer and provided customers with several popular framing options. Over the years there have been a few Anica Art galleries in the Blue Mountains, as well as Ulladulla and Mollymook on the South Coast of NSW.
Anica continually works on her evolving style and believes that it's the journey that must be enjoyed!
