Acrylic, Canvas, Ready to hang
168cm (W) x 180cm (H) x 2cm (D)
This work explores the tension between structure and collapse. Layers of paint and fabric intertwine to reveal moments of unravelling and repair. The exposed materiality embraces imperfection, capturing a state of becoming rather than completion.
Accentuating the quiet beauty of the rich landscape and natureβs manifestations, Anikaβs paintings are designed to carry her own subconscious memories of place. It is through revisiting past memories of treasured locations and landscapes that she believes holds importance in regard to the reverence of place. Each unique artwork acts as a vestige of her subconscious mind, sharing and reproducing the connections made between memory and the Australian land. Through her expanding practice, she aspires to symbolise the growing state of the natural world by abstracting and softening both materials and representations, ultimately forming new realities.
