Green Alter

This painting draws inspiration from the botanicals surrounding my home in Melbourne. Rather than documenting the landscape directly, the work reflects the feeling of living alongside these forms, the way foliage shifts in the wind, colours soften in afternoon light, and familiar shapes become abstract over time.

Accentuating the quiet beauty of the rich landscape and nature’s manifestations, Anika’s paintings are designed to carry her own subconscious memories of place. It is through revisiting past memories of treasured locations and landscapes that she believes holds importance in regard to the reverence of place. Each unique artwork acts as a vestige of her subconscious mind, sharing and reproducing the connections made between memory and the Australian land. Through her expanding practice, she aspires to symbolise the growing state of the natural world by abstracting and softening both materials and representations, ultimately forming new realities.
