Influence
The kaleidoscope was invented by Scottish scientist Sir David Brewster in 1816. It typically consisted of colourful fragments and mirrors contained in a tube that was rotated to artificially create endless symmetrical patterns. It was intended to act as a design tool to inspire artists and designers of items such as textiles, carpets and ceramics. However, it quickly evolved into a popular toy to be enjoyed with the human eye, a biological sensory organ for seeing reality.
