Influence
Parrotfish appear in a vast array of colours, which may change throughout their life. These colourful fish live in and around the world's largest coral reef system, Great Barrier Reef, nestled in the Coral Sea off the coast of Queensland, Australia, as well as other coral reef systems found in global tropical waters. They graze on algae and invertebrates found on coral and rocks. It is suggested they play a role in helping bleached coral recover by eating the algae that prevents new coral growth, as well as keeping coral healthy by preventing overgrowth. In this way, parrotfish are deemed vital to coral reef ecosystems and sometimes described as underwater landscape artists.
