The Oakleigh Motel in south-east Melbourne was the very first motel ever built in Victoria. It was the official ‘turning point’ for the marathon in the 1956 Olympics and typical of a Googie style architecture. I love capturing moments of history in my artwork, and this piece pays homage to the many mid century buildings which are being demolished. 'The Oak' is long and rectangular in shape, so would suit a space above a sofa, bed or dining table.
Artwork comes ready to hang, with a lovely natural oak box frame.
