Artwork Description

An original framed watercolour painting titled '100 Houses'.

This is a painting that I've been wanting to make for a very long time now and I'm so happy to have finally created it. Originally, I had planned to only use two colours for this painting: Alizarin Crimson & Payne's Gray. However, after sketching in the trees, I felt it needed a pop of a complementary color and so I also added a yellow-orange hue. '100 Houses' was first lightly sketched using graphite and then layered with watercolour and ink.

It is painted using high-quality Winsor and Newton watercolours on 200 gsm Winslow watercolour paper.

From start to finish, this painting took about six hours to complete so I hope you love it as much as I do!

Artist Bio

My name's Anna and I'm an illustrator based in Tasmania, Australia.

I spend a lot of my time sketching and painting buildings, landscapes, and whatever else inspires me.

In January of 2018, I started experimenting watercolour painting. I was inspired by the art and life of Beatrix Potter and hoped that, one day, I could follow a similar path.

Once I understood the basics of watercolour, I began to fall in love with the art of illustrating buildings and scenes. I enjoy the playfulness that one can bring to an architectural drawing and the challenges that often come with it. Like any artist, my style is forever evolving alongside my skill set and it's exciting to document this progress online.

I've had a life long love for the English countryside and cottages so naturally many of my paintings are of English villages and houses.

I usually use a combination of pencil, ink, and watercolour to create my illustrations and, when the weather is nice, I'll head outdoors to paint en plein air.
