Artwork Description

An original watercolour painting of the Penny Royal Windmill in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia.

The windmill is a much loved landmark in Launceston. With the weathered brickwork and and red roof, this framed painting of the windmill brings a quaint and homely feel to it and would make a perfect gift for a loved one. And with the unique and subtle style of this painting, it will be sure to attract the eye with pops of red and yellow.

This painting was originally sketched from a photograph and painted on the 27th of March, 2023. It was first lightly sketched using graphite and then layered with watercolour and ink.

Artist Bio

My name's Anna and I'm an illustrator based in Tasmania, Australia.

I spend a lot of my time sketching and painting buildings, landscapes, and whatever else inspires me.

In January of 2018, I started experimenting watercolour painting. I was inspired by the art and life of Beatrix Potter and hoped that, one day, I could follow a similar path.

Once I understood the basics of watercolour, I began to fall in love with the art of illustrating buildings and scenes. I enjoy the playfulness that one can bring to an architectural drawing and the challenges that often come with it. Like any artist, my style is forever evolving alongside my skill set and it's exciting to document this progress online.

I've had a life long love for the English countryside and cottages so naturally many of my paintings are of English villages and houses.

I usually use a combination of pencil, ink, and watercolour to create my illustrations and, when the weather is nice, I'll head outdoors to paint en plein air.
