Artwork Description

Healing, whether mental or physical, is not a simple process. It can be difficult, exhausting, gritty, dark.
But there is always a light – barely there, almost imperceptible at times, with a slow, faint pulse and heartbeat – that moves us to a place of healing. This light may be found in unexpected places or times, and we may have to squint to see it, but it always finds its way through the darkness. It is often difficult to feel the warmth of this light through the pain and discomfort that clouds the journey of healing, but a small touch of this light across our cheek or a glint of hope that falls into view, can be just enough to bring us back to some semblance of our former selves.
How The Light Gets In explores the strength of the human mind and body, and how through its resilience and courage, there is always a way to move through the darkness towards the touch of light that lets us heal.

Artist Bio

Anna Révész is an emerging, Adelaide-based artist working across several mediums, with a particular interest in photography and the opportunities it presents to capture, relive or totally reinvent moments in time. Révész explores the interchange between past and present moments and attempts to navigate spaces of instability and uncertainty. Utilising both digital and analogue photography she also explores ideas of memory and how it is created, sustained or reconstructed. Révész allows room in her works for contemplation and reflection – a slowing down of pace that becomes an antidote to the fast-paced nature of modern existence.

Révész is a graduate of Flinders University and Adelaide College of the Arts (2019). In 2020 she was awarded the Linden New Art Award at the Helpmann Academy Graduate Exhibition, subsequently showing her first solo exhibition, Architecture of Memory at Linden New Art in 2021. She recently undertook a mentorship with Hossein Valamanesh (Helpmann Academy Elevate Mentorships 2021). In 2021 she was a resident at Praxis Artspace Studios, and in 2022 she was a resident at 215 Magill (both opportunities via Helpmann Academy).

Révész's latest solo exhibition, Divine Machina (Praxis Artspace, July/August 2022) explored the melding of human and artificial intelligence through photography, poetry and installation.
