Artwork Description

Powerful owls are the largest Australian owl and they live on the East of Australia. They have a distinctive double hoot which is how we found this spectacular creature perched in our garden. Armed with torches and a camera I managed to catch a glimpse of this rare beauty with its small head, large yellow eyes and huge heavy claws. So impressive I decided to paint it.

Artist Bio

My name is Anna van der Gardner, I am a passionate botanical & landscape artist. I love to paint in watercolour, oils and acrylics, totally different mediums that bring such different results.
My passion is for painting everything that is in the botanical or natural world. I'm lucky enough to be surrounded by a botanical treasury of plants and birdlife which is where I draw my inspiration from. I photograph them closely and study the fine detail before selecting which flower, bird or scene to paint. I also live by the coast in Bronte where I am constantly photographing the ocean, beaches and parks close to my home so I can capture them on canvas.
