Artwork Description

A wanderer on the path of the imagination-a glimpse into the soul-an escape from the terrors of everyday reality.

Artist Bio

Adelaide based artist, Anna Macolino, was born on the beautiful island of Corfu, Greece. She migrated to Australia with her family when she was 8 years old arriving at a time when Australia was not as welcoming of migrants as it currently is.

Having to fit in to what was then an alien culture caused Anna a lot of trauma and out of necessity to blend in, she shut off a lot of her talents and her voice until much later in life.

In her twenties she designed her own line of children's clothes under the label 'Fee Fi Fo Fum' but abandoned her vision when she became ill with chronic fatigue syndrome.

Having to go on a journey to heal her own health she took up studies in psychology, health, wellness and life coaching, running her own counselling and coaching business.
Her current art journey began following an illness that changed the course of her life causing her to retire from private practice in 2015.

Part of her healing was through an intense meditation practice and it was during one of these sessions that shapes and colours started to appear in Anna's mind's eye.

The ideas, colour combinations and design all came to Anna through these visualisations often accompanied with emotions and images all of which then emulate onto the canvas.

It is in this process that each painting becomes an unknown journey of meditation and adventure.

In 2017 Anna was drawn towards creating children's portraits and more recently has moved on to working on large scale canvases and bold bright coloured abstract portraits.

Although it has been hard for this highly sensitive introvert to come out of her cave, it has been even harder for her not to allow her beautiful art to be seen and felt by others.

Anna’s art has helped her over the years to heal her trauma of not being accepted and helped her believe that there is value in her creative gifts.

Today her motto is 'Do not dim your light because it is too bright for some people who are afraid by it but instead shine it brightly so that others might also find courage to shine'.
Anna's most recent body of work is of bold, abstracted colourful females. They are a representation of the different emotions within the female psyche.

Anna asks her viewers to feel the emotions each painting brings up for them and to trust that feeling is correct with the emotion the painting was designed to emanate.
Every piece that Anna paints is an original.

She does not reproduce her work ever.

When you buy one of her pieces you will be owning the only piece available worldwide.
