The Road to the Prom

The iconic perspective of being on the road epitomises a wild, romantic feeling of freedom, travel and movement. And at times, it can offer glimpses of striking landscapes in split seconds. This painting attempts to capture such a moment, where a break in sunlight and turn in the road transforms the space. The hazy horizon offers a small glimpse of the muted hills ahead as a storm seems to be brewing in the sky. This work is inspired by the Gothic Romantic style of painting, where lightness and darkness hold the drama of the natural world.
