Night Garden

Success, opulence and abundance resonate from this painting. A bold statement piece perfect for any setting. The image is dominated by a the red rose full with symbolism and suggestion. The peachy pink, lilac and blue flowers daring to share the same space suggest ripeness and flourishing abundance. The Night Garden will steel any wall and declare a presence of beauty and strength.
The story of this work with its scrapes and scars was an enormous struggle to bring into being. I took to it with an electric sander risking everything to push into something that felt heroic and strong. It is one of my all time favourites and you have to utterly love her to own her - its a demanding image.

I been have been painting and creating images in oil, acrylic and other media for over 50 years.

Being creative has been life long. I live in Melbourne and currently work from a large light filled studio at home. I'm surrounded by a large wayward garden filled with plants and flowers. I first studied art in my early 20's, developing a practice which focused on drawing. I have maintained a space for my art practice, during years of family and a long career in health care. I returned to formal art studies as a mature age student cementing and expanding my life as an artist.

I have been lucky enough to travel widely and have visited galleries all over the world seeing first hand the beautiful works of many great masters and great contemporary artists. My art practice encompasses a wide range of genres and I make no apologies for not ever deliberately pinning myself down to a particular repetitive imagery or genre to date. Perhaps that will come.

A painting can harmonise a space with texture and richness more than any other object.
