Mutawintji

This painting is inspired by time spent in the outback at Mutawintji. Its a special place with an amazingly special feel about it. I especially love the earth, the colors of the rocks and the light on the escarpment. I have tried to capture the simplicity and complexity of the landscape with evident, consistently sized brush strokes that contain a myriad of colors.

I am an abstract landscape painter.
Decades ago, a trip to Central Australia moved me to capture some essence of the landscape and its impact on me.
I am inspired by the colour, timelessness, strength and dignity of the Australian outback landscape. The duality of fragility and strength.
During the decades that followed, I regularly spent months at a time in the arid regions and remote wild coasts.
My work is evolving into deeper abstraction. Reduction of the landscape to elemental lines, shapes and colour.
I primarily work with oil paint on wood board.
