βBuddyβ was an old dog belonging to the owners of a property we camped at many years ago. We had asked them to join us for a drink around the fire and a few of us set about preparing the obligatory cheese platter and wine before we lost the last rays of sun. It was a long walk home for the owners and we were expecting a chilly night. Buddy had arthritis and a slight limp. Knowing he would be better off getting home before dark, they called him over and said βhome Buddyβ, nodding in the direction of the main house. He turned and took himself towards the well worn track, cutting a lonely, solitary figure as he faithfully obliged.
