Artwork Description

I have always admired Van Gogh's Sunflowers and the way he painted them. In appreciation of Vincent, I rendered these same flowers in an original style with an almost tortured line. Freedom of emotion, with just enough control so as not to lose the image, and utilising sponteniety and 'chance' in honour of that great artist from the past.

Artist Bio

I studied art at the Julian Ashton Art School and have exhibited at the NSW Royal Academy of Arts where I have been a finalist in their art prize, along with various other prizes from different exhibitions and competitions. I have sold drawings and paintings to all corners of the world, and have found that my art appeals to a diverse range of people.

I explore the expressional possibilities within the action of drawing a line or a space, and combining linear strokes of paint. I search for impact with the subject, and the final painting may become a colourful and striking manifestation of lust, power and beauty, or a dark and cavernous world of despair and loneliness.

I am influenced by the works of Norman Lindsay and Gustav Klimt and am interested in the human form and its ability to convey expression and deep emotion.

My artwork is a representation of the struggle between the real and imagined worlds of existence. When witnessing a subject or a scene, I want to illustrate the way the mind processes what the eyes see between glimpses … the space between illusion and reality is the “truth”. There is a freedom and spontaneity, elements of chance and uncertainty, using different techniques and maintaining form and energy.
