Artwork Description

This unique photo is part of my most recent collection: BOARDS & BODIES.
You will find below some context around what inspired this series and the meaning behind it.

One might say not to judge a book by its cover. This collection suggests not to judge each body by the quiver.

In appearance, this series of photos takes root in geometrical and minimalist concepts, cultivating repetitive patterns, symmetries and relatively uniform bodies adopting even cheeky poses.

In reality, this bunch of similar-looking models reveals a palette of personalities as bright and diverse as the colour range featured in this single fin surf quiver. Different background, nationalities and ages, but also various temperaments, values and sensualities... from an enthusiastic, extravert and voluptuous French girl to the calmest, kindest and more mysterious Dutch young woman.

Also, behind each of these boards and women lies a different surfer... from a learner who rode her first green wave a few weeks back to an experienced Tahitian surfer who's spent her life in the ocean.

Yet, all of them compose these balanced, sensual and eye-pleasing scenes. As the true harmony of these shots comes from the strength and empowerment of these women surfing together, whatever their personal story, experience and own sensitivities.

Artist Bio

Apolline is a French Australian photographer who moved to Sydney in 2016 to experiment the beach lifestyle. Discovering this country of wonders and daily witnessing the elements unleashing made her realise how a stronger connection with nature deeply contributes to an enhanced life balance and a more humble mindset.

Thereupon, she started drawing her inspiration from the splendour of the ocean and the wild. She aims to capture moments, experiences and activities that make us closer and more respectful to our land such as surfing, travelling or exploring both the coastline and the countryside.

Apolline believes that life is better outdoors and when spent embracing the most simple gifts that this planet has to offer. Her collection of photographs was created with the intention of translating this spirit.
